"I find the emotion in the portrait. The ingredients change and reflect the interiority"

Description

Born in 1967 in Tours (France). Franck Bouroullec meets in 2003 the comic Jamel Debbouze who gives him the opportunity to perfom in front of the public, the paints the print of his portrait, upside down.

Today, his reputation goes far beyond France. Requested on every continents, he performs portraits of the most known people.

For the first time, Franck Bouroullec opens the doors of his secret garden.

“What interests me is a face, a charisma, a glance. In fact this personality brings me towards the others. I am a man of communication.

The atelier allows a different definition of the works. I analyze my line, this gesture initially interior which takes me to the end of the brush.

This precise gesture, given, just at one moment, like a gift.

The Glass

Since long challenged by the material, following my meeting with the Torrent brothers, Swiss glassmakers who understood my interest for the new supports.

I arrived as a questionner. The random aspect? How inks work between them ?

Expressing and creating graphically what I was doing on canvas, around glass and its components.

Namely the pigments, translucent inks, coloured resins and some precious substances (platinum, gold, money, bronze).

I had to learn how to control the flow, the evolution of the elements.

I diverted the usual function of the materials, of certain products. I gave them an additional dimension, the possibility of expressing itself well beyond the fact of assembling.
The transparencies, the colors…

My instinct of painter made me think of a new support of expression. Glass brings me this portion of freedom.”
